The right place:

Just North of  Houston is a gorgeous place to check out for those wanting rustic elegance with city access. In the heart of Magnolia, Texas lies Balmorhea, a sprawling acreage with stone-paved buildings. It has an old chateau feel, intimate, with a small bridge crossing the lake, and a fountain that reflects the sun at sunset in a way that feels like Midas himself kissed it goodnight. The quiet out here hugs you, like a warm blanket at the hearth on a cold day. It’s not the maddening quiet of a silent office space, or empty hallways. It’s a contentment. A blissful quiet that allows one to be lost in the moment. It is here, Chelsea and David decided to tie the knot. But before we walked them down the aisle, we journeyed out to Balmorhea to take her bridal portraits.

The right time:

After much discussion about what Chelsea had in mind, we decided sunset was our golden hour. The soft, but warm feel of sunset is perfect for those who like a golden, warm undertone to their pictures. Whereas cool tones are best in the morning, if you lean warm, you can’t go wrong with sunset. For this look, you want to go with around 4pm anytime after Daylight Savings. In spring and summer, it’s an hour and a half before sunset.

The right bride:

Chelsea’s smile is absolutely contagious. She has a hilarious sense of humor, and is really laid back as brides go. It is this demeanor that really comes through in her pictures. Where as many brides would be flitting about, fidgeting with their gown, their veil, their bouquet, Chelsea took everything in stride.  Every single crazy idea I had, she was on board for. We hiked all over the property to take these, and couldn’t be happier if we tried. I absolutely love her taste in headpieces. From the elegant broach in her hair, to the veil, to the glitter and sparkles in her dress, her entire persona and ambiance screams happy and fun.

Please enjoy this collection of my favorites from our shoot together. Come see for yourself why Balmorhea has quickly become a fave of mine!
